Keeping Hope Alive

The unpredictable nature of the past year has hit some of our friends, neighbors, and communities pretty hard. For some, the future seems very uncertain. What IS certain, however, is the way Kansans care about each other, and the way your generosity makes it possible for us to provide essential services for those who are experiencing hardship, like those in the stories below.

Will you make a gift today to the Catholic Charities 2021 Annual Appeal so that we can continue to provide hope that makes a lasting impact for these individuals and families and for our communities?

Giving Hope During COVID-19

Giving Hope During COVID-19

Beginning in 2020, COVID-19 intensified the human needs that Catholic Charities was called upon to address and the manner and resources with which we had to address them. Our agency quickly shifted into disaster response mode and we provided significant quantities of personal protective equipment, food, and funds for individuals and families in southwest Kansas who were affected by COVID-19. Richard, a single father of six, is one of the individuals who approached us for help. Click here to watch Richard's story.

Alexa had never heard of Catholic Charities, much less the Catholic Charities Housing Program when her house was condemned, and her children temporarily removed from her care last spring. Today, thanks to the Catholic Charities Housing Program, Alexa, her mother, and her three children have gotten a second chance in a new home. The difficult months still move her to tears, but she appreciates that Catholic Charities was there for her: "Catholic Charities has been a blessing. It really has." Giving Hope to Families

Giving Hope to Families

This past weekend, my co-worker's spouse posted a picture of their beautiful tiny new granddaughter with the caption: "Such an amazing gift from God." What a perfect sentiment to capture the essence of our celebration of National Adoption Awareness this month! Here at the intersection between couples who are not able to conceive and birth parents who want their baby to have more than they can provide lies this amazing gift from God! And too, here at the intersection of National Adoption Month and Giving Tuesday lies this amazing gift of hope! Click here to read more.

Giving Hope to Afghan Evacuees

Hasib was one of four Afghani refugees sitting around a large table at the Catholic Charities offices in Garden City. Also seated were Hussain, Nashat, and Nabiullah. Providing translations via telephone was another Afghan refugee, Abdullah. From the moment they arrived in Kansas, Catholic Charities have been at their sides, helping them to obtain housing as well as everyday needs. The four are waiting to obtain work permits and are eager to become employed. Click Here to read their story.

Please make a gift today so that our friends and neighbors can get the services they need in order to experience self-sufficiency, hope, and fulfillment once again.

Your generous gift will give peace of mind to neighbors who are experiencing hardship for whatever reason: sickness, job loss, medical bills, unintended pregnancy, homelessness, disaster, and more, while still trying to take care of their health, provide for their children, put food on the table, and a roof over their heads. You can give them one less thing to worry about.

As you consider your giving plans for year-end, I hope that you will support our friends and neighbors who are experiencing hardship through a gift to Catholic Charities of Southwest Kansas.

Can our friends and neighbors who are in need count on your gift today?
